To reduce delays and prioritize to traffic coming in and out of CrazyCall over other applications on the network you can activate the Smart Queue option in UniFi Security Gateway. It’ll resolve the problem of quality when the router or bandwidth gets overloaded.
NOTE: Keep in mind that activating the Smart Queue option may result in reduced maximum throughput (85Mbps for the USG, 250 for the USG-PRO). To resolve such inconveniences we recommend you monitor the available speed when the Smart Queue option is on and compare it to the time when it’s off.
How to activate Smart Queue
- Go to your UniFi controller’s Settings
- Select Networks
- In there, select the WAN network (the one that you’ll be using for your VoIP service)
- Go to Common Settings
- Toggle on Enable Smart Queues
- Click on Pre-populate to run the speed test or perform one on your own
- After that click on the Enable Smart Queues to see additional Up Rate and Down Rate fields. Here, you can click on PRE-POPULATE to automatically set 80% of the Up and Down bandwidth.
- Click Save (keep in mind it might force a restart of your USG).
After you’re done with the above, you got the QoS configured on the Security Gateway.
Now we’re going to make sure that traffic is not blocked at the port level by opening a specific set of ports.
How to open ports
- Go to your UniFi controller’s Settings
- Select Routing & Firewall
- Select Firewall

FYI - the UniFi access points and switches will automatically map DSCP value to Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) priority, by default. Because of that, the voice is automatically given the highest priority so there are no additional changes that have to be applied.
